Andreas Papapetropoulos

Professor

Andreas Papapetropoulos is a Pharmacist. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology at the Medical College of Georgia, USA and continued his training as a postdoctoral researcher at the Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine at Yale University. Upon his return to Greece, he first served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and then as a Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Patras before returning the NKUA in 2013. He is Αffiliated Ιnvestigator at the Institute of Biomedical Research of the Academy of Athens. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of drug action and the preclinical evaluation of drugs. He has published 205 publications in peer reviewed journals that have received 28,000 citations (h-index 76). He has been Adjunct/Visiting Professor at European (Maastricht University) and North American Universities (McGill University, LSU, UTMB, UMDNJ). He is a member of the editorial boards of journals published by the British and American Pharmacological Societies and the American Heart Association and a reviewer for more than 60 international journals and 26 private and state funding bodies in Europe, America and Asia. He has been elected Fellow of the American Society of Cardiology and the British Society of Pharmacology, and President of the Federation of European Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR).

Christos Reppas

Professor

Christos Reppas, Ph.D., is a Professor in Pharmaceutics whose research focuses on the effects of dosage form characteristics and gastrointestinal physiology on the intraluminal performance of xenobiotics, as well as the development of in vitro tests predictive of intraluminal dosage form and drug performance. He has supervised 14 completed Ph.D. theses and coauthored over 160 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, along with two books on Biopharmaceutics and Drug Disposition and a world patent. Dr. Reppas serves as an associate editor of the AAPS Journal and is a member of the editorial boards of the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology. He has been the principal investigator in several EU-funded training and research programs, including OrBiTo, PEARRL, COLOTAN, InPharma, and AGePOP, and served as vice-chair of the COST action UNGAP. Additionally, he held the position of Chair of the Department of Pharmacy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2022–2024).

Vassilios Roussis

Professor

Professor Vassilios Roussis obtained his PhD in 1987 (University of Iowa, USA) and did postdoctoral work at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, USA (1987-1989) and NCSR Demokritos (1992-1995). He joined the School of Pharmacy in 1995 and in 2006 he was promoted to full professor. Between 2008 and 2021 he served as the Director of the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products, while currently he is the Director of the Section of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products. Since 2019 he is a member of the steering committee of Special Account of Research Grants of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, while since 2023 he is a member of the Technology Transfer, Innovation and Young Entrepreneurship Committee of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is the author of more than 240 publications and 10 patents. He is actively involved in the chemical investigation of marine organisms from the East Mediterranean Sea and has isolated more than 300 new marine natural products. His research has been funded by several national and European grants. He has served for two years as President and for four years as vice-President of the Phytochemical Society of Europe. He is Editor for marine natural products for the scientific journal “Phytochemistry Letters”, Associate Editor for the scientific journal “Marine Drugs” and member of the editorial board in many scientific journals. In 2015 he received the PSE – Bruker Award “in recognition of his outstanding contributions to chemistry, structure and function of marine natural products”.

Emmanuel Μikros

Professor

Emmanuel Mikros, PhD, is a Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Université Paris XI, Orsay, France (1988), an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (1984), and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Athens (1983). His research focuses on molecular structure analysis using NMR and molecular simulations, drug design, in silico screening, and NMR-based metabolomics. He has served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna and the Institut de Chimie de Nice. Currently, he leads cutting-edge research and academic initiatives as a Professor at the University of Athens since 2010. Dr. Mikros has authored 175 research publications with 4,797 citations, boasting an h-index of 38. He is also the inventor of a patent on indirubins for biological applications and has successfully coordinated multiple high-budget projects, some exceeding €4 million. His work has been recognized in various international forums and collaborations, and he is proficient in Greek, French, and English.

Maria Vertzoni

Associate Professor

Maria Vertzoni is Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics, Department of Pharmacy, National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. She received her Bachelor in Chemistry in 1994, her Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry in 1999 and her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2004 from NKUA. In 2016, she received her Master of Science in Medical and Pharmaceutical Statistics from Athens University of Economics and Business. Research interests focus to the physicochemical characterization of intraluminal environment and oral drug absorption with special interest in special populations. She is co-author of more than 130 peer reviewed papers and chapters in international journals and books (h-index 42). She is member of the editorial board of Molecular Pharmaceutics, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics and Die Pharmazie. She had supervised 2 PhD Theses and is currently supervising 4 PhD Theses. She is/has been involved in several EU funded training and research programs, i.e. AGePOP (coordinator), PEARRL, InPharma, OrBiTo and COLOTAN, and one COST action (UNGAP).

Yannis Dotsikas

Associate Professor

Yannis Dotsikas is a pharmacist with a MSc and PhD in Pharmaceutical Analysis. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece. He has over 20 years’ experience in leading research in the fields of Pharmaceutical Analysis developing novel analytical methods for the analysis of drugs, metabolites and bioactive compounds in pharmaceuticals and biological fluids. His research interests include: Pharmaceutical Bioanalysis, Drug analysis in formulations, Genotoxic impurities, Neonatal screening, Dried Blood Spots, Mass Spectrometry and Chemometrics/Experimental Design (DoE). Vangelis D. Karalis

Associate Professor

Dr. Vangelis KARALIS is Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy - Pharmacokinetics at the Department of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has a degree in Pharmacy, an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, and a PhD in Pharmacokinetics. His fields of research include the application of data science in clinical and pharmaceutical research. His interests are focused on the application of artificial intelligence in clinical research, in silico clinical trials, modeling, and simulation in the drug research/development of drugs, and bioequivalence studies. Dimitrios Filippou

Professor

Prof. Dimitrios Filippou, MD, PhD was born in Athens in 1970. He studied Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Athens, from which he graduated in 1995. He completed his Ph.D. thesis in 2002 and received the title of Ph.D. of the Medical School of the University of Athens with a degree "Excellent".

Panayotis Kyritsis

Panayotis Kyritsis obtained his BSc Diploma in Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in 1987. In 1993 he completed his PhD studies at the Department of Chemistry, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, U.K., under the supervision of the late Professor A.G. Sykes.
